Aquatic macroinvertebrates are a reliable indicator of stream water quality. Looking Below the Surface is a story map providing an educational explanation of PA DEP's macroinvertebrate dataset for stream assessments.

When using the 2024 Integrated Report Viewer to identify steam impairment, select only "aquatic life - impaired" within the stream layers. Then, click on a section of the stream to see the impairment source (urban runoff, eutrophication, agriculture, etc.) and additional sample data.
