Communication Coordinator and Website Manager

Spring Creek Watershed Commission and Atlas

 

Supervisor: Chair, Spring Creek Watershed Commission

Employment: Contracted part-time, up to $20/hour

Anticipated start date: As soon as possible.

 

Organization Overview:

The Spring Creek Watershed Commission (SCWC) was founded in 1996 and reorganized under the Pennsylvania Municipal Authorities Act in 2007. The mission of the Spring Creek Watershed Commission is to provide Vision, Leadership and Planning for and through a partnership between local municipalities, Penn State, Centre County Government, the Centre Regional Council of Governments, water and sewer authorities, nonprofit organizations and local business.  The SCWC web site can be found at https://www.springcreekwatershedcommission.org.

The Spring Creek Watershed Commission has organized, sponsored and supported a large number of programs over the years including the Spring Creek Watershed Atlas and the ongoing development of a comprehensive Watershed Plan. The Atlas Project is an online public outreach and educational service of the SCWC to provide a one-stop, interactive, accurate, and up-to-date watershed resource to engage the public, governments, education, community organizations, developers, local businesses and homeowners to make educated decisions about reducing any negative impact in the local watershed. Position Overview:

The Communication Coordinator and Website Manager is responsible for assisting the SCWC in planning, recording, and reporting meetings as well as performing administrative duties such as scheduling public announcements; distributing materials and resources; and assisting the Chair and Commission with other administrative duties as assigned. The position also requires maintaining the SCWC and Atlas Project web sites and working directly with members and contributors on content creation and design elements for public education and outreach. This is an independent contractor position.

 

Personal Characteristics:

Candidate must perform as a team player and be willing to take initiative. Creativity and problem-solving skills are desirable. Candidate must be willing to work flexible hours, evenings, and weekends. 

Desired Qualifications: 

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including written, verbal, public speaking, and social media are required. Must be focused and possess superior attention to detail and desire to build consensus on collaborative projects. Candidate must have a valid driver’s license and a reliable personal vehicle for transportation to and from work and meetings.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.) 

  • Proficient with using Google Drive (used for Atlas articles and for SCWC document storage)

  • Proficient with Wix or willingness to learn

  • Ability to work on multiple projects with many stakeholders 

  • Good communicator

  • Able to work 20-40 hours a month depending on how many meetings are held in that month (mostly remote) 

  • Reliable transportation to meetings

  • Interest or experience in environmental issues is preferred

 

Primary Duties: 

  • Maintain SCWC and Atlas websites

  • Help coordinate and take minutes for SCWC meetings and other administrative duties as assigned

  • Distribute relevant materials electronically to SCWC and Atlas membership lists 

  • Publish yearly meeting schedule and any changes as needed in Centre Daily Times

  • Work with educational speakers to get PowerPoints and other relevant materials

  • Create and distribute municipality invoices each year (September to October)

  • Create occasional promotional materials and content as needed

  • Create online polls and surveys as needed

  • Maintain email lists for Atlas and SCWC

  • Send out draft documents to work groups for review

  • Variable tasks related to SCWC’s “One Water Plan”

  • Other duties as assigned
